Why Art Histories?...

iaa_boardIn fulfilment of its mandate to educate and promote, the Inuit Art Foundation is capitalizing on the ability of the Internet to reach a wider audience.

There has long been a need for “generic” Inuit art exhibitions to educate the world about Inuit art and to document the art for succeeding generations of Inuit. Inuit Art Histories will be of interest to Inuit, particularly those living in the North, and to southern researchers, art dealers, and collectors.

Nunavik Art Alive

Nunavik Art Alive aims to fill a historical gap by presenting the arts of Nunavik past and present. Not only did art for export begin in Nunavik, but it is a continuing important activity among Nunavamiut, and individual talents are flourishing.

Nunavik North of Sixty

Discussions and exhibitions of art by Inuit from Nunavik are usually focused on the larger communities of Inukjuak and Puvirnituq. This exhibition features sculpture that has been created in several of the smaller Inuit communities located above the 60th parallel on the Ungava Peninsula in the region of Nunavik, Northern Quebec.
